How To Easily Find Recently Downloaded Files in OS X

I have Firefox set to save my downloaded files to my home directory in a folder called downloads, but often times, for whatever reason, my downloads end up on my Desktop or in some other folder in my home directory. And I have no idea where my Adium and torrent downloads are set to save. In any case, I found it useful to create a Recent Downloads Smart Folder, because I always have a hard time finding the file I just downloaded. Here’s how to do it:

Quicktime 7.2 AVI and Noise Feedback Fix

Ever since I got my LCD TV and surround sound I have been watching a lot of avi movies and TV shows from my mac routed to my TV and stereo without any problems. Along comes Quicktime 7.2, not too many changes so it shouldn’t be a big problem, all my videos should work flawlessly right? NOPE! AVI files no longer load in a timely manner if they load at all. So I’m stuck with tons of movies to watch and no way to watch them unless I download another player or fix Quicktime.

Gmail is too slow!

Lately I’ve noticed that Gmail seems really slow. I’m not sure if this is because I spend almost all my time in Textmate, which is super speedy, or if it’s because I have a ton of contacts and emails stored on Gmail, or if it’s something else entirely. In any case, I know I’m not alone because a couple of friends have voiced the same complaint. Here are some of the things I’m doing to make gmail a little more snappy:

Skip to Next or Previous Word in iTerm Using Alt / Option + Left or Right Arrow Keys

I recently decided to give iTerm another try after one of my friends recommended it to me. I had tried it several times before, and never quite gotten used to it. I always seemed to prefer Visor + Terminal for some reason or other, but since I’ve setup a global keyboard shortcut to focus / open iTerm, I’ve been enjoying having a tabbed terminal.
